Structure, individuality and a positive character are
three of the things I look for in a good wine. These qualities tend to
be expressed in wines where yields are small and dedication to the vineyard
is intense. The wines are thus most often made by small growers whose
produce must be actively sought out.
All of the producers contributing wines to the Ripe Grapes list are small
estates which both grow the grapes and turn them into wine. There is no
intermediary stage in the process where either character or individuality
can be lost.
Domaine
des Romarins, Côtes du Rhône (and Villages), muscular
concentrated yet fine wines
Domaine les Yeuses, Vin de Pays dOc,
delicious easy everyday wines from single grape varieties
Domaine de Valensac, Vin de Pays
dOc, superior everyday wines from single grape varieties
Château dExindre, Coteaux
du Languedoc, forceful yet elegant wines
Domaine St Estève, Coteaux
dAix-en-Provence, rich firm characterful red wine
